Hood To Coast 2002: Whoop Ass Van 2

Warning these can take a while to load
They're named strange because that is the way my digital camera auto-names them.

If you want prints of these, you can send them to www.kodak.com electronically, or by web reference and they will print the file and send it to you for a small fee.

It was a long, long, relay, as driver I managed only a couple of hrs sleep during the whole ordeal but at least I didn't have to run any of the legs, especially during the dust bowl section (at night no less). The best of it was that our van managed to over take and beat that obnoxious Liberty team, now if we'd only grabbed a headband as a souvenir.

How'd we do?

At the start we had some time, so we spent it decorating the van

Everyone was eagerly waiting to cheer Dave on during our van's very first leg

Then it was Ken's turn

Our timing was a bit off, Bill made the handoff from Ken, but the photo-op was gone though Ken doesn't look all that tired now does he?

DSCN1367.JPG thumbnail

Because it was early, we didn't have a clue on how fast Bill was really going to run his leg, not even time to take a picture, then Lisa was off, but I was in better form at the end of her leg and actually got the handoff to Beyonda.

It wasn't quite dark by Lynn's leg, but it was pretty close, and reflectors and flashlights were mandatory

At the Van exchange was about the only time we saw the other group

The second set of legs was basically in the dead of night, challenging everyones stamina

But it was dawn (and crowded driving) as we were late for a few exchanges before the next van exchange.

Yes, the port-a-pottys were not usable

I tried to get Lynn during her run, but wasn't sure if that was her

DSCN1382.JPG thumbnail

Oh, there she is.

Dispite the driving, the decorations stayed on pretty good, especially the big G on the grill

Here we are eagerly anticipating that Beyonda had closed the gap with Team Liberty, and she had, by 2 minutes, still, there was 5 minutes for Lynn to make up on the very last leg.

Here we all are at the finish, no group run, no finish line pictures, all because Lynn was so fast that she made up the 5 minute gap, and then dusted Liberty to the finish (easily by 2 or 3 minutes at least) easily worth the wait.

Here's all of Van 2 right before we left for home .. the van was clean, but still a bit smelly.

Of course we can't forget our "name" sponsor, but I did forget the name of that "special" water we were given. The best was the attempted distribution of cans of Whoop-Ass, especially at slow moving exchange points.
