Works been really busy, and we have most of next week off. The drive to San Diego was uneventful, although we stopped a Harris Ranch on the way down, and had, yet again, another so-so meal, we both decided that we wouldn't be eating there again. The wedding was fun, nice place too (Torrey Pines, yes the famous golf course). Despite the busy travel, we managed to stop off for a bit to see Elena's mom's new place, then it was the long drive home, good thing we got a rental car.

This past week at work we had a power outtage, took the whole building down for the afternoon, and then it took half the next morning getting everything back up correctly. We suspect it was because the temp was in the 100's When I got home from the shutdown I noticed that my A/C decided to crap out again ... hopefully its something not too expensive, but at least it was cooler this weekend. but

Elena's off to Toronto for the week, so its just the animals and me, good thing the heat's died down, but I still have to give Gilbert anti-biotics twice a day, good thing I figured out I could inject it into Cheetos .. that makes it much easier.

I have a slew of pictures to put up, some from as far back as Candice's wedding in october, and lots from Jon's wedding too .. hopefully before the end of the year ... oh and Lori had a baby boy (Tyler Mckenzie Fichman) she sent me the particulars and some pictures so I'll try and get those up soon too.

You'd think that I'd remember to update more often, but I've been busy at work (reorg still, and now I had to move my office ugh) then I managed to hurt both ankles playing bball but at least I'm playing again.

Around the house we've been turning the patio into a mini bird sanctuary .. 2 regular feeders (Droll Yankee) that attract house finches and brown headed cow birds (around 8-10 birds). A nyjer (thistle) feeder (also Droll Yankee) that has a family of 3 goldfinches. There are also two hummingbird feeders with occasional visitors, one mystery "huge" hummer that I haven't seen yet but Elena claimes is humoungous, and a few smaller ones. The smaller female seems quite taken with Gilbert, she buzzes back and forth by the window when Gilberts up on the window rod ... we think its because he's so green (and large) because the male hummers are the same green, just way smaller. Gilbert must look like a studly hummer.

Then there are the ground animals ... the deck is on the 2nd floor, suspended above the garage entrance. For quite a while we only had Morning Doves, chickedees and black headed juncos ... but then the squirrels noticed the birds and have been climbing over the roofs to get to the deck. This is a bit of a problem since they seem to be picking (green) apricots off of our tree.

Speaking of plants, we have an apricot tree for Gilbert to sit in, a small myers lemon that appears to be doing well, a blueberry bush growing wild in a pot as well as a huckleberry that isn't growing quite so fast. Then theres the hanging basket of perennials as well as the 2 ikea window boxes on the deck ledge. The window boxes are right under the feeders, and the birds were dropping scraps left and right so we had to buy little seed trays to put underneath them (again, Droll Yankee has some trick, modular stuff) because the ground birds were digging around in the boxes. Now the squirrels have figured out that if they stand on the box they can just reach the seed dish and scoop stuff out .. and in the process they're trampling all of Elena's work.

This past weekend we wandered over to Santa Cruz to a farmers market, while there we found some kind of "paradise vine" that has really cool flowers although we're not quite sure how it will do on the deck. After planting that we should be done for quite a while.. unless more get trampled in the feeding frenzy.

On the blast from the past front .... back when the web was smaller, I used to read a few online journals, one of them went offline a few years ago and every so often I'd try and contact the author .. one day I found her, she wasn't writing as much and then I lost her new website on a system change over. A couple of weeks ago she found me, and left a note in my guest book ... she's writing again, more frequently ... but its nice that she even looked me up you can check out her site at http://www.squipper.com/weblog She appears to be doing the blog thing (as are so many others) I'm still thinking about it, very hesitant to open up my server though ... it gets ping'd/pounded/tested enough without enabling ftp .. and using storage on some other server can be risky.
