First things first, it was a pretty good tourny with caroline, the ankle and body held up ok, and we finished mid-pack again so there was no major embarassment. Elena's biz is starting up ok, managed to make sales at both the Sunnyvale and Campbell farmers markets, and the word of mouth on her product is picking up. Her website is up (www.grendelsweets.com) but no internet commerce yet .. it may be email/paypal for a while.

Then there was the surgery, since I'm out under general it was like no time passed, but there was soo much crap in my ankle that it took over an hour longer than they expected .. the pictures were pretty bizarre too. Slept most of the rest of the day with no pain, they numb'd every thing up pretty well. That night however, was a different story. I kept getting shooting pains in my heel that woke me up ever hour or so, even with the max dosage of vicodin. The next day the toes are still numb, my heel hurts and I'm exhausted. Good thing that the hospital followup is to call you, I mentioned the numbness and they had me call my dr. That afternoon he took another look, wasn't sure why I was numb, it could've been the wrap, or the anesthetic, but he was pretty sure the heel pain was from the brace/wrap so he put me in a removeable walking boot (even though I'm not supposed to put any weight on that side yet) and changed my bandage.

It immediately felt better, that and I could rest my ankle up, out of the boot, and then use the boot to protect it while I hobbled around. Slept through the night with just advil and the hot spot on my heel started to clear up. The next day the majority of the toe numbness was gone, so it looks like it was anesthetic instead of irritation from the retraction. So far so good, my arms are sore from the crutches, and I *probably* can get to work for a bit this week, although I won't be very productive because of the move.

Did I mention that before my surgery I had to pack up my whole office while it moved about a block away from the rest of engineering? since I can't really stand, it'll be awhile before I can actually unpack and setup my computer .. it looks like I'll be more efficient if I can rest my ankle and work from home. Good thing I prep'd them for 2 weeks recovery/work from home.

Haven't had time to move the birdy cam yet, although I should just order another one so that there isn't so much backlighting on the current angle.
