Daryl & Ivona's Wedding (9/21/2002) - Visiting Hotel VegaWarning these can take a while to load
After numerous detours (thanks alot Daryl ;) Elena and I finally made it to
Hotel Vega.
Daryl had left everyone some of the local wafer cakes in our rooms, probably because he felt guilty about the detours ;) but they were yummy all the same. The room itself was spartan (after staying at a rather nice place in Prague) and the odd part was that the european idea of a king bed is 2 singles pushed together, with mattresses smaller than the frames, there was "quite the canyon" as Patrick (Dee's husband, Daryl's brother-in-law) was fond of saying. He was quite fond of saying many things, but more on that later ;) In any case it was a decent room, although having a separate toilet room (and door) away from the bath and sink took a bit getting used to. Since we (and all of Daryl's family) were staying 45 minutes outside of Zlin (ask Daryl, but for a better story ask Dee or Patrick) there was much more of a country atmosphere, gorgeous views and very quiet (and dark at night). After a very unsuccessful shopping excursion to Zlin (ignore Daryl, buy your gifts in Prague) Elena and I stopped off at the Bata Shoe Museum. This visit makes Elena one of the few people in the world to have visited both museums (the other one is, big surprise, in Toronto). The only real interesting thing there was this shoe made out of a hamster.
