Daryl & Ivona's Wedding (9/21/2002) - Reception: The Events Warning these can take a while to load They're named strange because that is the way my digital camera auto-names them. If you want prints of these, you can send them to www.kodak.com electronically, or by web reference and they will print the file and send it to you for a small fee. They have this kinda cool tradition, everyone waits outside of the reception and then when the bride and groom appear at the threshold they have to break a plate, and sweep it all up togeather. Of course the crowd was making sure that Daryl did his fair share. One bit of Americana, Daryl surprised everyone by carrying Ivona over the threshold, I'm not sure if any candid shots exist but I'm pretty sure the official photographer and video guy got it all. During the first dinner were the general toasts, one by Ivona's father which he did in Czech and English, unfortunately I was having mechanical difficulties so this one is pretty fuzzy. Then Mike gave his toast, but he had Monica translate it for him, but like Daryl he does know how to say 'ano' ;) Oh and they had this other tradition, Daryl and Ivona had to feed each other out of a large bowl of soup connected by a single bib. I'm pretty sure that Daryl didn't eat his share because I saw him keep refusing a full spoonful (or maybe it was the liver dumplings?) Finally it was time for their first dance Everything was pretty normal til the Czech part began, first they surrounded the couple dancing... Then out of nowhere the Uncle appeared with a pair of chairs, since he didn't brief us beforehand, he (and a couple of others) attempted to lift Daryl on the chair. As Patrick was so fond of saying "you don't lift that ass with 3 guys" and they didn't, they got him up, then dropped him. If you look close at the next picture you'll see part of him in Ivona's lap. After adding a few more folks to the lift, everything was grand, and they celebrated with a toast, a kiss and breaking glasses on the dance floor.
